Just a few random whatevers as I sit here in my leather chair.
Because we are moving in a couple of weeks, Elena is not covering the house top to bottom with Christmas decorations. In fact, she isn't even putting up our big tree. (Tomorrow, I'll post a photo of the tree we are using this year.) I am shocked. Who is this person and what did she do with my wife? Please understand, I'm not complaining, this is all less work for me and the tree we are using was the girls' idea, so they are fine. I just am amazed at the restraint and practicality Elena is showing toward this issue. Christmas decorating is one of her favorite things.
Had a great trip to Columbus the last couple of days. I am so looking forward to what God has in store.

Got to spend some time yesterday with one of my former students. She is now an RN living in Columbus right around the corner from Capital City. Cool.
Still trying to wade through the mounds of paper in my office as I prepare everything here for the transition.

I am an Alabama fan this weekend. No way do I want to see Florida anywhere near the title!

Paper or plastic? One of those great dilemmas of life that plagues us all. :o)
I know we are technically and actually in a recession, but Americans did spend 11 billion dollars on Friday. That's up 3% from last year. Not stellar growth, but it is growth. Point is, seems the problem is on the government end along with a few morons at the top of some of the laregst companies. I don't have the answers, that is for sure, but is more debt the answer to solve what really is a crisis of debt and fueled by debt?

ReplyDeleteI hate the idea of a playoff. As much as Wetzel tries to argue it would enhance the regular season, it would only make it less important. How many college basketball games do you watch in the regular season? And quick, name me the last 5 college basketball champions. Now name the football ones.
Wetzel says, "With a playoff, that wouldn’t be possible. You’d earn your title by surviving a four-game test that would rival the NFL playoffs." This I particularly dislike. The NFL is great and I'm a committed Browns fan, but they don't crown the best team every year. Matter of fact, it's been rare in recent years they have. The Patriots were arguably the best team in the history of the NFL last year, but one fluke game gives the Giants the championship. Could you really say in 2007 that the Giants were better than the Patriots? College football gets it right in this regard.
If anything I like the plus-one idea. There is no way the Buckeyes deserve the same shot to play for the championship as Florida or Alabama this year. No way Boston College gets the chance to get hot ala the NY Giants.

You would definitely get some readers. The plus one idea would be better than what currently exists. As far as basketball, I don't follow it as much because I am more passionate about football, but I know those who do, are, and could name the past 5 champs. The same could be said of any sport. True, the Patriots were the better team last year, but the Giants overcame the odds. At least they are the undisputed NFL champs from last year. I personally think sports should be about the competition and note about political type elections and voting. While no system is perfect because there are so many variables, a change needs to be made to fix this broken system that leads to controversy year after year.
